Dear Brothers and Sisters,
Our beloved Basilica is a vibrant, multiracial community consisting of Caucasian, African -American, Hispanic and Asian ancestry. As the Body of Christ we have always come together and will continue to do so to witness to the Gospel and work for the common good of our society.
In this particular time I want to thank all African- Americans for their faithful commitment to God, the Basilica, the greater Wilmington area and the United States of America. We are proud of you and support you.
The presence of African -Americans at our parish dates back to St. Thomas the Apostle Church in Wilmington which was combined with St. Mary’s Church and later became the Basilica Shrine of St. Mary.
As we approach the solemnity of the Most Holy Trinity let us pray for all African-Americans across the US.
We DENOUNCE RACISM !
