My Dear Friends,
Today we celebrate the Feast of the Ascension of the Lord. In most dioceses of the United States, including the Diocese of Raleigh, this feast day replaces the 7th Sunday of Easter.
This day celebrates the day that Jesus ascended into heaven after he had been with his disciples for a period after his resurrection from the dead. Before his Ascension, though, Jesus gave his disciples a “missionary mandate” when he told them, “Go into the whole world and proclaim the gospel to every creature” (Mark 16: 15).
In the United States, we celebrate this Sunday as Mother’s Day, a day to give special honor for and thanks to our mothers. Of all the vocations to which one can be called, none is as complex and noble as that of parent. Congratulations to all of the mothers and mothers-to-be of our parish! May God bless you abundantly today and all the days of your lives!
Sincerely yours in Christ,
– Father Bob
